Over
thirty five Palestinians died during the
Israeli Army incursion into the refugee
camp of Jabalya. It was not the first
Israeli military action against the
Palestinian refugee camps on the West Bank
and Gaza, using tanks, helicopter gunships
and assault troops to kill and injure
Palestinian men, women and children.
By any humanitarian criteria, sending
heavily armed troops that intend on using
lethal force into over crowded refugee
camps is a war crime, and the subsequent
massacres that took place were reminiscent
of the massacres in the Sabra and Shitila
refugee camps in Lebanon.
It seems that once again that the Israeli
army and its Commander in Chief, Ariel
Sharon, feel that can commit atrocities to
secure Israel’s hold on a land it has no
legitimate claim to and has been illegally
occupying since 1948. These acts of
murderous violence are aimed at pushing
out or eliminating the only people that do
have a legal claim to the land, the
Palestinians.
What is different about the killing and
maiming this time, is the Sharon
Government has loosened the rules of
engagement. It has encouraged the Israeli
Army to use live fire throughout the West
Bank and Gaza and within Israel itself, in
an effort to suppress legitimate protest
against their illegal occupation and their
violation of entire peoples human and
civil rights.
But
as the Israelis ratchet up their military
action once again, Arab governments have
joined with Europe and the US senate in
doing nothing positive to stop this latest
campaign of terror against a civil
population. They called this type of
terror campaign ‘ethnic cleansing’
when it happened in Yugoslavia.
It seems that no Arab government is
willing to save the Palestinian people.
Perhaps they are waiting for Jesus to save
the Palestinians and defeat the Israelis
as it is prophesied in the Koran.
According to reference in the Koran and
detailed in certain Hadeeths, Jesus’
final mission on earth is to defeat the
Jews in the final battle at Lod.
Hadeeth 11 states:
“Exactly at the time when the imam of
the Muslims in Damascus steps forward to
lead morning prayer Jesus will descend
upon them. The Imam will step back and
Jesus will lead Morning Prayer but Jesus
will say, “no you should lead for the
congregation to follow you. So the imam
did lead the prayer. After the salutation,
Jesus will say, “open the gate” so the
gate will be opened. Outside will be the
Dajjal (the Antichrist) along with
70,000-armed Jews. As soon as he will look
on Jesus he will start melting like salt
in water, and will flee. Jesus will say,
“I shall strike a blow which will not
let you live.” And he will overtake him
at the Eastern gate of Lod, and God will
cause the Jews to be defeated….. And the
earth will be filled with the Muslims as a
vessel is filled with water. The entire
world shall recite and follow one and the
same Kalimah (word) and none shall be
worshipped but god.”
As can be seen from this Hadeeth,
all Muslims believe the Jewish nation will
be defeated and there will be a time when
Muslims will be in the ascendancy in
Palestine. However, as with the story of
Armageddon in the Bible there is no time
line. Believers are only warned to look
for “signs” that indicate the day of
judgement is at hand.
However, this ultimate victory and the
promise of peace before the day of
judgement does not excuse the pitiful
response to the occupation of Palestine
and the subjugation of its people by the
governments of the Arab World.
As the situation edges closer and closer
to all out war as the daily death toll
mounts and Israeli increasingly sends its
army into the camps on the West Bank and
Gaza. There is sadly no action being
prepared by the region’s Arab
governments to intervene or threaten force
to prevent what will become a war of
attrition between Arabs and Jews.
Are
we once again about to sit idly by as an
entire Arab people are driven from their
land and killed? Will we again side on the
sidelines and wring our hands and shed
tears for the terrible tragedy of
Palestine? Or will we at long last decide
to confront our fears and face down Israel
and not wait for Jesus’ return to
provide a just and peaceful settlement for
the Palestinian people.
