"Frustration
is the cause of armed
resistance"
PAUL
FINDLEY former
U.S. congressman
|
Frustration, desperation, and
suffering have forced the Palestinians
to opt for military resistance,
according to Paul Findley, a former U.S.
Senator and well-known author and
lecturer.
"If
you have not suffered like the
Palestinians, you will never understand
how that suffering led to desperation
which by itself let to killing,"
Findley responded to a question put to
him by a U.S. expatriate living in Dubai
on why Arab leaders and people support
the Palestinian Intifada and standby
"suicide bombers". He
was speaking at the Metropolitan Hotel
Dubai last Sunday.
"I do not defend suicide bombers,
but I understand why they behave like
that," Findley added, to the
applause of the selected audience of
intellectuals and media people from all
over the world.
Paul Findley was a prominent congressman
between 1961 and 1983. His trip to
Yemen to plead for the release of an
imprisoned U.S. citizen started him on
an unexpected journey through the world
of Islam that continued for 25 years and
inspired his 2 books: They Dare To
Speak out and Silent No More.
He has won six awards including the 2000
Malcolm X award by the American Muslim
alliance and the Islamic community award
by the Council of the American - Islamic
relations.
