How Bazaar

Baby SharkOne of the best types of food Dubai has to offer comes from its surrounding warm Arabian Gulf waters. The Gulf is home to a fantastic variety of sea life, which will often arrive on your plate within hours of being caught. Big crabs, Omani rock lobster, red snapper, huge jumbo shrimp, even baby shark are only a small selection of what is available to seafood fans. The Thai Fish Bazaar, at the Metropolitan Hotel, Dubai gives you a chance to see your dinner before it is cooked. The Fish Bazaar does not have a conventional menu. Wander along a huge display of more than 20 varieties of freshly caught fish and choose whatever takes your fancy. Your choice is then cooked Thai-style and delivered steaming hot to your table. A big menu board gives you a choice of cooking styles, but we recommend that you rely on the excellent advice of the Fish Bazaar's very knowledgeable restaurant manager, Jess Maganito. He chose for us a combination of crab, baby shark and red snapper with fried rice and fresh vegetables. It was delicious.

The Thai Fish Bazaar is at the Metropolitan Hotel, Dubai.

Rolling around

Rolls RoyceOf the select band of marques that fall into the category of 'dream cars', Rolls Royce has to be one of the most sought after. Founded in 1906 through a partnership between Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, the company produces the ultimate in luxury cars and their new model sticks to that tradition. A new Rolls Royce is a big event, considering the last model was launched in 1978. But after 20 years, Rolls Royce has finally launched its 9th generation car, the new Rolls Royce Silver Seraph. And its curvaceous body and slick styling has Gulf-based buyers queuing up to buy one. "Sit in the new Silver Seraph and you enter a different world," says Mohammed Ali Murshed, sales manager for Rolls Royce and Bentley at Al Habtoor Motors. (Murshed, incidentally, was awarded the title of Rolls Royce worldwide salesman of the year, 1997). Although usually associated with Royalty, flash rock stars and as corporate transport, Rolls RoyceMurshed says that many buyers are individuals that demand extremely high standards of performance and service for their money. All of which Murshed, through Al Habtoor Motors, provides. "We were also awarded best dealer for Africa and the Middle East last year," says Murshed. "Many of our customers are so happy with our service that they prefer to buy their Rolls Royce from us even for use overseas." The Silver Seraph is powered by a 5.4 litre V12 engine that will take it up to a top speed of 225km/h, where allowed, and if you want one for Christmas, you had better place your order now, as delivery is 14-16 weeks. Although your car can be built to order, dealer-specified models rarely stay in the showroom for more than a month before they are sold. "The Rolls Royce has a presence on the road like no other vehicle," says Murshed. I should hope so for nearly Dhs1 million!

Sports Academy Emirates International School, owned by Al Habtoor Group, is currently hosting the Adidas Sports Academy. In its third year at Emirates International School, the Academy provides youngsters with sports coaching in tennis, basketball, soccer, swimming, karate and gymnastics. The camps are run by Connection Sports Services which is headed by Pancho Campo, a former professional tennis player. "The emphasis at the Adidas Sports Academy is on participation, not just winning" said Campo. The academy, apart from providing coaching, aims to promote fair play among the participants and Campo says it is just as important to take part as win. "Just because a kid is not the best footballer or gymnast, it doesn't mean he or she shouldn't practice that sport," said Campo. All participants receive an award for their performances and coaching is provided by staff qualified in the relevant disciplines. Although there is no set age to take part in the camps, most participants range from 5 to 17 years. The Academy runs throughout the year and is split into 3 terms, Spetember-December, January-March and April-June, plus the summer camp.
