Rocky Gathercole is a young Filipino designer. He is only 30, but already famous in his own right in difficult and very competitive line of fashion designing.
He works for the fashion house of Calash in Dubai, where he has been since 1993.
Before that he spent six years working as fashion designer in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh and Al Khobar), and it was there that his professional career started.
Rocky has studied Fine Arts in the Philippines.
His interest in fashion became obvious very early on when he was only seven years old and started drawing dresses and designing clothes for his family.
When he was in the secondary school, his designs were so good, that he started looking for a job opportunity outside his native country, and that is what brought him to the Gulf area.
Now Rocky is in Dubai and has already had his first One-Man Fashion Show in the Dubai Intercontinental Hotel last April, which was a great success. Next spring he is planning another Fashion Show. Again all the outfits will be his creations.
The House of Calash is busy. Rocky has 15 staff, but he prefers to take care of every detail, in each dress he designs, personally. “My favorites are the wedding gowns,” he laughs. “There is always a very special feeling to a dress for a future bride.”
But of course he likes doing a lot of different styles, and most importantly his prices are very affordable.
